HKT-The Coral Executive Lounge

I wasn’t expecting to find this lounge as Phuket is a relatively small airport.  I was expecting to only use the Thai Airways lounge.  But I saw a lounge entrance before immigration with a big Priority Pass sign, and decided to give it a quick try.  This lounge is a hidden gem in the Priority Pass network.

The biggest surprise of this lounge is the fact that they provide VIP immigration services for all lounge guests.  When you check in to the lounge at the desk, you are taken through a glass door that doesn’t lead to the lounge, but a dedicated immigration counter.  I was not expecting this at all.  The lounge representative walks you through immigration to the security checkpoint.  Once you pass the checkpoint, another lounge representative is waiting to escort you to the lounge entrance.  The lounge company has made special arrangements with the airport authority.

I learned that the lounge is very new, open only four months.  The lounge is quite small, but comfortable with views of the water at the end of the runway, or the tarmac itself.  There is one wall mounted TV at one end, playing Cartoon Network, right above a very small kids corner with safety flooring, toys and Legos.  The lounge seats about 40, in comfortable chairs.  There are power outlets in every grouping of chairs.  There is no restroom within the lounge, guests are required to use the public restrooms in the main waiting area.

Food is rather extensive for such a small lounge.  There are hot noodle and rice dishes, soups, snacks, Tom Yum Goong, a pastry counter, and a number of soft drinks and beers by the can.  If you are a coffee person they have an Illy branded capucchino/espresso machine.  And in typical Thai form, tropical fruit juices from dispensers.

Access to the lounge is for Priority Pass members, or 900 baht for pay entry, and can be found at a branded counter at the entrance to the immigration hall in the international departures area of Phuket Airport.

I was pleasantly surprised by the VIP immigration services, but also found the lounge comfortable with substantial food and drink offering. I actually prefer this lounge, for its extensive food and drink offerings alone, over the Thai Royal Orchid Lounge.  If you are not flying business class from Phuket, try this little gem out.
